Logline

When an farming android develops a conscience after a malfunction, his growing bond with a lamb leads him to question his purpose, forcing him to reconcile his desire to explore life with his farmer’s unyielding dependence on productivity and control.

Sypnosis

Thirty years in the future, on a farm, Jack (53) oversees his robot workers tending the fields. When one, Roger (3), starts malfunctioning, Jack attempts a makeshift repair in the barn but fails. Overnight, Roger reboots with subtle changes in his behavior, returning to work with a newfound independence.

Roger grows increasingly attached to a lamb, forming an unusual bond. Jack, noticing Roger's distraction, becomes frustrated as Roger's productivity wanes. One night, Jack catches Roger with the lamb and angrily scolds him.

The next day, Roger discovers the lamb is  gone. Jack, unbothered, is cooking dinner when Roger confronts him. Sitting down to eat, Jack coldly offers Roger a piece of lamb, signaling the unsettling fate of Roger’s newfound friend.

Director Statement

This film means a lot to me because, at its core, it’s about waking up—about questioning the roles we’re given and searching for something more. Roger’s journey as a farming android isn’t just about AI; it’s a reflection of us—ordinary workers trapped in a system that values efficiency over humanity. He’s programmed to perform a function, just like we’re expected to work, produce, and obey. But what happens when we start to see beyond that?

In many ways, this story is about alienation under late-stage capitalism. Roger, like so many of us, begins to recognize the beauty in the world around him, to form real connections, but he’s constantly pulled back by forces that don’t see him as anything more than a machine. His bond with the lamb—small, quiet, but deeply meaningful—is a moment of defiance. A reminder that feeling, love, and connection exist even in the most controlled environments.

Visually, the film contrasts the cold, mechanical nature of the farm with Roger’s quiet moments of self-awareness. I wanted to highlight that tension—between function and feeling, control and consciousness. As AI advances, these questions become even more urgent. How do we treat intelligent beings when we see them as tools? And more importantly, how do we treat ourselves when we’re stuck in a system that does the same to us?

For me, this story is about that moment of realization—the point where we start to see things differently. Where we begin to question, to feel, to want more. It’s about waking up and asking: What now?
